Collectors…why you are so important

I’m the Shy One

6 × 6 × 24” H

There is a myth that artists work alone.

Yes, we do spend countless hours in the studio with our own thoughts, wrestling with ideas that often make no sense until they finally become something we can hold in our hands.  We make work because we have to.  Because curiosity won't leave us alone.  Because there are stories that insist on being told.

But the real story starts when you decide that a character that made you smile, made you remember, stirred something in you…a piece you purchased to tuck among your other treasures you've collected over the years, finds it's way into your home.

When you chose that piece, you quietly stepped into its story.

You allowed room for another idea to be imagined.  For the next whisper to become heard.  To allow wonder to come into the studio and give birth to new ideas and quiet characters that need to be made.

Thank you for making room in your homes for characters that first existed only in my imagination.

And thank you for being part of this wonderfully improbable partnership between artist and collector.

None of us creates a meaningful life alone.

Not even the artist in a quiet studio.
