Taking time to play this summer

For years, you've know me through clay.

The sculptures have become familiar companions, creatures shaped from memory, imagination, and stories that seem to arrive before I fully understand them.  They will always be at the heart of what I create.  

But every artist eventually reaches a moment when curiosity begins whispering a little louder.  

Over the past several months, I've been giving myself permission to wander.  To ask different questions.  To make marks instead of forms.  To embrace uncertainty instead of reaching for what already feels familiar.  

I stepped away from my studio practice this summer for a bit while trying to process the disappointing loss of so many damaged pieces as a result of weather at an outdoor show.  

That journey has let me to a new body of acrylic paintings that felt both healing and cathartic at the same time.  

These works weren't planned as a new direction.  They emerged from something much quieter…a desire to dive deeper into my creative practice, to explore without expectation, and to rediscover the joy of making something simply because I didn't know where it would lead.  

There's something wonderfully vulnerable about beginning again.

Working in acrylic has reminded me that creativity isn't about mastering a single medium…it's about remaining open.  About allowing yourself to be surprised.  About trusting that taking chances often reveals parts of yourself you didn't know were waiting.  

I'm excited, and admittedly a little nervous, to share these paintings with you.  

I don't see them as stepping away from sculpture.  Instead, they feel like another conversation within the same imagined world I've always been building.  Different language.  Same heart.
